Taylor, 26, was injured in training last week after a tackle with teammate Sol Campbell.
Newcastle confirmed on Wednesday that the former Wigan man, comfortable as a right-back or right winger, would miss ’10 to 12 weeks’, ruling him out of an important three months in the English Premier League newcomers’ season.
“It’s very disappointing to lose Ryan for this period of time,” Newcastle manager Chris Hughton said.
“Although he hasn’t played as much football as he would have liked, he has been a very valuable member of our squad this season.”
Taylor has made four appearances for Newcastle this season, three of which came in the Carling Cup, where he scored two goals.
His appearances in the Premier League have been limited, making just one appearance of the substitutes’ bench.
But there is no doubt Newcastle’s squad will be tested over a hectic Christmas and New Years’ period,?with the?former England Under-21 representative’s presence to be missed.
