Team more important for Villa

(GSM) – Barcelona forward David Villa has revealed that he remains unconcerned by lack of goals so far this season.

The 28-year-old also said that the Catalan giants recruited him during the summer for his qualities as a team player and not because of his scoring exploits.

Villa has scored just four goals in La Liga so far this season and two of those came in last weekend’s 5-0 demolition of Sevilla at the Camp Nou.

But the Spain striker says it does not matter who scores the goals for Josep Guardiola’s side.

“Barca didn’t sign me for me to be the top goalscorer, but to help the team win,” he said.

“If I don’t score them, someone else will.”

Despite the lack of goals, Villa has been constantly backed by Guardiola and says he appreciates his coach’s support.

“I am very happy to have his confidence and it makes me see that I am doing things well,” he said.

And Villa, who has been used by Guardiola on the flanks as well as in the centre of the club’s three-man forward line, says he is now fully adapted to his new role at the Catalan club.

“Be it playing on the right, in the centre or on the left, the most difficult thing to get used to has been defending on the wing, but I am clear on that now,” he said.

Barça travel to Getafe on Sunday evening, with the weekend’s other big game also taking place in Madrid on the same night when Atlético Madrid host Real Madrid.
