They might have won just one of their past six English Premier League fixtures, but Chelsea captain John Terry denies his club is in crisis.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has come under growing pressure about his future at Stamford Bridge given their uncharacteristic form, but Terry has insisted the champions still have what it takes to finish the league on top of the table.
“It’s not a crisis at all at the moment. We’re still in with a shout of the Premier League and we’ve just topped our Champions League group,” the 30-year-old centre-back said.
“Early on in the season we were playing very well and if we can get that form back, with other teams slipping up and dropping points, we can pull away from teams again.”
Ahead of Chelsea’s duel with another title contender on Sunday in Tottenham, Terry said last season’s league triumph provides incentives to repeat the success in May next year.
“We went three years without winning the Premier League and got it back last year,” the England international said.
“Believe me the celebrations afterwards and the feeling of getting our hands on that trophy was unbelievable.”
“It was like the first time we had won the trophy. Now it’s time for all of us to stand up.”
