Everyone in the England squad played a full part in training on Wednesday except the captain, John Terry. He remains a doubt for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier with Kazakhstan due to an on going niggling back injury.
Although playing some part on Wednesday is an improvement after Terry sat out the whole of Tuesday’s training, his back problem is clearly still an issue.
Surely Kazakhstan do not present a serious enough threat to England for Fabio Capello to risk his captain in Saturday’s game? The risk posed by Belarus next Wednesday may be more significant and I would expect England to be trying to ensure that Terry is fit for that game.
Rio Ferdinand played the major role in facing the media yesterday and I fully expect him to take the captain’s armband on Saturday.
There are many of us who feel that Capello should have made Ferdinand his captain in preference to the volatile Terry in the first place.
