On Friday, Manchester United captain Gary Neville stated Liverpool is still in the title race despite their recent results. Chelsea skipper John Terry disagrees with his Man United colleague. He doubts Liverpool’s strength. “They instantly have a problem when Gerrard and Torres are out.”
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez s currently enduring the most difficult spell of his Anfield career following a run of four successive defeats in all competitions.
Benitez’s side also face Premier League champions Manchester United on Sunday where a fifth reverse in a row would leave the Reds 10 points adrift of the current leaders.
“I’m not sure Liverpool can compete for the title,” said Terry. “We’re very fortunate at Chelsea. Since Roman Abramovich came we have had a lot of strength in depth in the squad. That’s the difference with Liverpool.”
As an example, Terry looked at the last Champions League matchday. Chelsea defeated Atletico Madrid (4-0) despite top striker’s Didier Drogba absence. His replacement Salomon Kalou scored two times against the Spaniards.
“People said we would struggle without Didier, but we didn’t. If you take Torres out of their team, who do they bring in? It’s difficult.”
