Terry fit for Spurs clash

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has given captain John Terry the green light to play at Tottenham on Thursday.

Terry picked up a knock in Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Wigan but should be fit to play, along with Ramires and David Luiz.

Terry appeared to jar his knee after an aerial challenge with Latics striker Franco Di Santo with about 15 minutes left at the DW Stadium, while the Brazilian duo did not even travel with the squad as a result of minor injuries.

Villas-Boas admitted Terry remains in discomfort, but said the England international would play through the pain barrier at White Hart Lane.

“John Terry took a painful knock, but he seems OK now. Even if he is limping I think he will be fine for the next game,” Villas-Boas told reporters.

“Ramires should be fine as well. He’s progressing and will be able to play, and maybe David Luiz too.”

Jordi Gomez’s late equaliser came at a time when Chelsea’s season appeared to be gathering momentum again, but Villas-Boas maintains his side have not been discouraged by the setback.

“We go there with our confidence unaffected,” the Portuguese said.

“It’s a pity we didn’t win at Wigan as it would have given a different perspective to our position in the table, but we’ve maintained our unbeaten run.”
