Chelsea captain John Terry returns against Everton as they seek to get back onto the winners list on Saturday.

The English Premier League champions are without a win in their past three games, but their defence will be shored up by the inclusion of their tall centre-back for their match at Stamford Bridge, according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“He is very important because Terry is our captain; he is a player with a strong personality and above all I think it’s very important in this moment to show personality, to show character,” Ancelotti said.

“But I think that John Terry can support the other players to show these kinds of skills in this moment.

“In this moment it is not easy, it is not finished and we have to come back to win, we have to come back to play, to come back to play good football and it’s very important tomorrow to win.”

In more good news for the Londoners, midfielder Frank Lampard could be available in as little as seven days, as the England international has almost overcome his hernia problem.

“And Lampard, Lampard maybe could be the last week (out) tomorrow; next week could be him, to see him out of (for) the game, I hope that next week will be important for him to be involved in the game against, against Tottenham,” Ancelotti said.

Terry said Chelsea’s recent form slump was unacceptable for a team shooting for back-to-back Premier League titles, and he hoped to reinstate Chelsea on top of the table with three points against David Moyes’ side.

“We have dropped too many points recently. Looking back only two or three weeks ago we were so many points clear and in the goal difference as well. Now both gaps have been closed,” the Chelsea skipper said.

“We need to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later. I think we have played well the last couple of games and on another day three or four may have gone in.”

“At times you need to work hard and push for your luck. It’s not going to be given to you in life and sometimes you need to make your own if it’s not happening for you.”
