Chelsea captain John Terry was included in a 20-man squad that headed to France on Tuesday for the Champions League match away to Marseille on Wednesday.
But Chelsea have left French striker Nicolas Anelka and England full-back Ashley Cole back in London.
England central defender Terry returned to action in the Premier League champions’ 1-1 league draw with Everton on Saturday following a nerve problem in his right leg.
Midfielders Yuri Zhirkov and Frank Lampard have not recovered from injury in time for Wednesday night’s game, while centre-back Alex (hamstring) joins creative midfielder Yossi Benayoun in being out for the long-term.
Making the journey for an away Champions League match for the first time is Italian winger Jacopo Sala, who turned 19 on Sunday.
The final Group F match is a ‘dead’ tie for both leaders Chelsea and second-placed Marseille as both clubs have already qualified for the last 16, with Chelsea unable to be knocked off top spot.
