Tevez still in the frame for Milan

AC Milan director Umberto Gandini has confirmed they will wait until the end of the transfer window to sign Carlos Tevez if they have to.

The Italian club have long been linked with a move for the out-of-favour Argentine, who looks to have played his last game for Manchester City.

Gandini was speaking at the Champions League round of 16 draw which has pitted the Serie A title holders against Premier League side Arsenal.

“Well, I think it’s known. There’s an offer made by AC Milan for Tevez, Manchester City are considering that and Tevez has expressed his liking to join AC Milan,” he told Sky Sports.

“There are obviously other clubs who are interested in such a great player, and we’re waiting. Our CEO (Adriano) Galliani says we’ll be waiting for Tevez until the last day of the market, but we hope that we won’t have to wait for so long.”

It has been rumoured that AC Milan’s offer for Tevez is initially a loan deal that could become permanent at the end of the season, but Manchester City want a straight-up deal to be agreed for the player as soon as possible following a year of transfer requests and public spats with manager Roberto Mancini.

City chief football operations officer Brian Marwood, meanwhile, insists the club’s position on the Tevez arrangement has not changed and Milan’s preparedness to wait until the end of the transfer period could backfire.

“AC Milan came to us with a loan option, which was something that we rejected and that stays the same. Clearly they have decided to conduct their business through the media, which is something we choose not to do and will continue not to do,” he said.

“Nothing has changed – Carlos Tevez is still a Manchester City player. I don’t know if he will still be here at the end of the window. Everybody is aware of the situation. His desire is to leave the football club and the club have gone on record as saying we will consider that.”

“It just really depends on us receiving something that is acceptable to Manchester City. That’s no different from where we were before, and that will not change.”

“We will have to see what the next three or four weeks bring. There are more teams than just AC Milan interested in Carlos Tevez, so if they choose to wait until the end of the window then they may pay a price if other clubs come in before them.”
