The good, the bad and the ugly this summer

This summer’s transfer market has been just like that famous Clint Eastwood western the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I will take you through which transfers I think are good, bad and ugly. There maybe some debate about my picks and I am depending on our readers to comment on your teams signings.

I’m also interested to hear your thoughts and opinions on the players that you would love to see at your club or would hate to see at your club. The players I have highlighted are not just signings from the Premier League. There are also some La Liga and Serie A stars in the mixing pot.

Good Signings

Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal)

The Belgium international was hardly a household name when Arsene Wenger paid £10million to Eredivisie side Ajax for the centre-back, but already in his first few games at the Gunners hes proving that he will be a big success in the Premier League. He could be just the centre-half that Arsenal have been crying out for years. He has really impressed me so far and I think he will continue to improve.

Tuncay Sanli (Stoke)

A few of you might raise your eyebrows at this one, but I believe that the Turkish international can provide the flair that was missing last season in the workmanlike Potters side. The 27 year-old is capable of that one bit of skill that can win you a game. I believe he can become a big cult hero at the Britannia Stadium.

Wesley Sneijder (Inter)

The Dutch playmaker completed a £14million transfer to Serie A champions Inter this week. He will provide Jose Mourinho’s side with a flair and a skill that they have clearly lacked in recent seasons. His signing could see Inter finally have a good run in the Champions League.

Samuel Eto’o (Inter)

I couldn’t believe it when I heard that Inter had signed Eto’o and also received £40million for sluggish Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Eto’o is a natural born goalscorer and had a superb campaign last season. The Cameroonian international has already scored his first Serie A goal and will go on to be one of the signings of the season.

Bad Signings

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelona)

This deal is by far the most baffling transfer I have ever seen. The Swedish international joined La Liga and European champions Barcelona for £40million plus Samuel Eto’o. I bet Inter cant believe their luck. They signed a world class striker and received £40million for a player that’s more hot and cold than Katy Perry’s record. Granted he is capable of brilliance on occasions, but he is just not consistent enough for a fantastic team like Barcelona.

Frederic Piquionne (Portsmouth)

This lad could go on to prove me wrong but the loan signing from Ligue 1 Lyon is known as the striker that doesn’t score in his homeland. That really doesn’t bode well for the south coast side. The French striker did manage to score against Hereford in the Carling Cup 2nd round win. I hope for Portsmouth’s sake that he proves to be a success.

Kevin Prince-Boateng (Portsmouth)

I’m afraid its another Portsmouth signing, sorry Pompey fans I have nothing against you it’s just these signing have really perplexed me. The former Tottenham midfielder has struggled in North London and there’s absolutely no indications at the moment that he is cut-out for the Premier League.

Ugly Signings

Joleon Lescott (Manchester City)

There is no debate that Joleon Lescott’s £22million move Manchester City turned very ugly. The arguments between Everton boss David Moyes and City’s Mark Hughes, the poor attitude of the player when his transfer request was turned down, all turned this in to the ugliest transfer in recent times. Sorry Joleon it wasn’t a slight on your good looks, more a reference on the transfer as a whole.
