Manchester United are prepared to fight their neighbours Manchester City for the signature of Napoli’s Jorginho, according to the Mirror.
Reports earlier this year linked Jorginho with a move to Liverpool as City and United targeted Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred. However, Pep Guardiola apparently decided to abandon the Fred interest and pursue Jorginho instead, leaving the path clear for United to negotiate a deal. Now, Jose Mourinho is preparing to do the same, and a fresh transfer battle between the Manchester clubs is about to begin.
At United, club captain Michael Carrick is retiring at the end of the season, and at the same time, Marouane Fellaini is likely to leave on a free as his contract expires. Hence the need for midfield reinforcements. City, on the other hand, are preparing to part ways with long-serving midfielder Yaya Toure, and are looking to rejuvenate the middle section of the squad with both David Silva and Fernandinho over 30 years old.
