The Manchester United superstars that could still be heading for the Old Trafford exit over the next fortnight

Putting in a nightmare second-half display away at Tottenham on Saturday evening as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat, Manchester United have certainly come under some recent scrutiny.

While Erik ten Hag’s men might have opened the 2023/24 campaign with a controversial 1-0 victory at home against Wolves, the Reds have failed to find any kind of stability and still appear someway off mounting any kind of title charge this season.

Although United might have really broken the bank this summer as they welcomed the likes of Mason Mount and Andre Onana to Old Trafford, it appears that a number of ten Hag’s first-team stars could still be heading in the opposite direction.

With just a fortnight left until the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1st, we have taken a look at a handful of United superstars that might be set for a late move away from Manchester.

Anthony Martial

While Anthony Martial might have come off the bench for a brief cameo appearance in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham, it appears more than likely that could have been the Frenchman’s final appearance for the former Premier League champions.

Failing to pull up any trees during his loan stint with Spanish outfit Sevilla last season, the former Monaco starlet certainly doesn’t appear to be any part of ten Hag’s attacking plans this season.

Although a string of Saudi-based clubs might remain linked with a potential swoop for the France international, The Mirror are suggesting that West Ham are also keeping a close eye on Martial’s situation at Old Trafford over the final couple of weeks.

Coming close to leaving the club on several occasions since arriving in Manchester back in 2015, United have placed their former record signing on the transfer market and are keen on finding a permanent buyer for Martial before the window slams shut.

Dean Henderson

While Dean Henderson might have watched on as David de Gea ended his 12-year stay at Old Trafford last month, the England international still finds himself in the Manchester United wilderness with just two weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.

Despite gaining a string of praise during his loan spell with Premier League returners Nottingham Forest last season, Henderson has since returned to the red half of Manchester and once again sits at a career crossroads.

With former Inter Milan shot-stopper Onana arriving at Old Trafford this summer and immediately cementing his spot as ten Hag’s number-one choice, the 26-year-old has made it clear that he is seeking first-team action this season.

However, while ten Hag might have stated that Henderson will not be allowed to leave unless a replacement is brought into the club, The BBC reported over the weekend that Crystal Palace have registered their interest in the one-cap international about completing a permanent swoop over the final fortnight.

Eric Bailly

Although Lisandro Martinez might have endured a torrid start to the 2023/24 campaign, it appears that Eric Bailly has no route back into ten Hag’s first-team plans at Old Trafford going forward.

While the Ivory Coast international might have arrived in Manchester back in the summer of 2016, it is fair to say that the ex-Villarreal star has endured an injury-riddled tenure since completing his £30million switch.

Completely omitted from United’s pre-season tour of the United States and spending last season on loan at Marseille, it is no secret that United are desperate to get Bailly’s wages off of their salary bill and are almost pushing the 29-year-old out of the Old Trafford exit.

Along with continued links over what would be a bank-breaking move to Saudi Arabia this summer, The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that Fulham are keen on reaching a deal over the next couple of weeks.

Donny van de Beek

Although there might have been a huge amount of excitement around Old Trafford when Donny van de peek arrived back in September 2020, the Dutch midfielder has endured a public nightmare in the red half of Manchester.

Still yet to make a single appearance since opening the 2023/24 campaign and dealing with a host of injury issues, it finally appears that the former Ajax star will be granted his move away over the next fortnight.

Previously making it clear that he is desperate for a fresh start away from Old Trafford, the Holland international is currently not being considered for selection and has no way back into ten Hag’s plans.

Failing to find his feet after completing a £39million move from the Dutch giants, ten Hag also confirmed following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Spurs that he expects the 26-year-old to be sold before the transfer window slams shut.
