Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has refused to sign a new contract in order to push for a move to Spanish super club Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.
The Belgian goalkeeper’s current contract is set to expire in 2019 and the shot stopper is reportedly turning down all new deals as he looks for a move back to La Liga. Courtois had a successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid and the Madrid club’s city rivals could offer a new challenge for the talented goalkeeper.
Real Madrid had previously shown interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea (remember the fax machine drama?), but they now look to Chelsea for their Keylor Navas replacement.
The Spanish club are struggling in La Liga, by comparison to their own lofty standards at least, as they find themselves in fifth place, seven points off rivals Barcelona. Having conceded six times in their opening seven league games this season, the addition of Courtois to their star-studded ranks could stem this flow of goals in the next campaign, should Chelsea allow their goalkeeper leave.
