This week’s English Premier League transfer rumours are in, with a couple of surprising ones, to say the least, stealing the headlines.
Arsenal
Once again, we start with the Gunners due to alphabetical order considerations.
According to Metro, Arsene Wenger said that he is not planning on selling Andrei Arshavin in the January transfer window.
You’ve got to kidding me. Surely Wenger should be looking to sell Arshavin and use that money to buy a full back, but he’s no budging at the moment.
Will Wenger finally give in, or will he dig Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League grave?
Aston Villa
Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is reportedly keen on signing Los Angeles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane to a permanent deal after the Irishman’s winning brace against Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the Sunday Mercury.
Despite the speculation, I fully expect Keane to be back with the LA Galaxy come the start of next season.
After all, he’s choosing between the City of Angels and Birmingham.
Chelsea
According the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has made a £20 million bid for Shakhtar Donetsk star Willian.
If history does repeat itself, look for the Blues to make a big move before the transfer deadline, whether it be for Lille’s Eden Hazard or for Willian.
Liverpool
Speculation, from Caught Offside, has suggested that Liverpool are interested in signing out of favour Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero.
Granero would be a fine signing for the Reds, but does Kenny Dalglish really need another midfielder? Surely not.
Instead, King Kenny should be looking for a young striker to pair with Luis Suarez.
Yes, that does mean that I have already given up on Andy Carroll.
Tottenham Hotspur
The story of the week comes straight out of White Hart Lane, with Tottenham reportedly slapping a world-record £150 million price tag on Wales international Gareth Bale.
This report came out just prior to Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Manchester City, in which Bale scored a cracking goal at the Etihad Stadium.
Surely he didn’t hurt his value with that cracking effort, but £150 million is absolutely ridiculous for one of the most inconsistent players in the Premier League.
I understand that Spurs are just trying to hold on their 22-year-old talent, but placing a £150 million price tag on Gareth Bale is a travesty in all honesty.
Furthermore, the Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United have labelled Luka Modric as their number one transfer target of the summer, but the Red Devils will have to cough up £50 million to sign the Croatian.
