The father of Thomas Partey has confirmed that the Atletico Madrid midfielder is in talks with Arsenal, according to AS. As quoted by the report, Jacob Partey said that his son had informed him the rumours were true, but it would still all depend on what Atletico have to offer.
Atletico have reportedly already put their offer of a new contract on the table for Thomas to consider, but under the terms of the current one, he can leave for €50 million.
The Rojiblancos managed to get past Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 through sheer grit and determination in a contest that lasted over 210 minutes, as the second leg at Anfield went into extra-time. The midfield powerhouse played a vital part in that contest. However, Atletico’s chances of winning that prestigious trophy remain slim even if the competition is continued, and they could well miss out on it altogether next season.
It that aspect, it wouldn’t be fair to say Arsenal are a better prospect at the moment, but manager Mikel Arteta seems keen to add the 26-year-old to his ranks.
