Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has asked the club chiefs to be sold in the summer, according to La Derniere Heure.
The Gunners captain has been playing second fiddle to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny of late, and it appears he is slowly losing patience.
Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure has learned that Vermalen has told Arsene Wenger that he wants out at the end of the season.
“He told Wenger that he wanted to leave Arsenal next summer. Manchester United inquired in January,” the player’s agent was quoted as saying by journalist David De Myttenaere.
The 28-year-old has a contract until June 2015 at the Emirates, but everything suggests he will be sold in the summer transfer window.
Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax in the summer of 2009 and has since amassed 83 Premier League appearances and scored no less than 13 goals.
The Gunners sit one point adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea and are available at 10/1 to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
