Week 5 of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League will take place between Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Here are the three top matches to watch during this week’s slate.
Real Madrid vs PSG (Tuesday, 20:00 GMT)
Paris Saint-Germain have been one of the most dominant teams in the UEFA Champions League this season, winning their four matches while scoring 10 times and conceding none. The reigning Ligue 1 champions are one of three teams that have already clinched a spot in the knockout stages, and they will aim to take another step towards ending the group stage unscathed.
This will be their toughest test to date, though, as they will visit Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu. Even though Los Merengues have not been able to perform as expected, they are coming off back-to-back wins against Galatasaray and have a five-point lead against the third-placed team, Club Brugge. Taking a point would be enough to give them a spot in the next round, but they will look to avenge their 3-0 away loss in the previous meeting against the French champions.
Juventus vs Atletico Madrid (Tuesday, 20:00 GMT)
Juventus are undefeated so far in the UEFA Champions League (W3, D1) and they already secured a spot in the next stage of the tournament. They will look to secure first place of Group D with a win here, although they will have a tough opponent at Juventus Stadium since they will lock horns against Atletico Madrid, one of the most complete teams in Europe and one with a stingy defensive unit.
Los Colchoneros sit in second place with seven points, four above the third-placed Lokomotiv Moscow. A win would also send them to the next stage of the competition, but these two sides already settled for a 2-2 draw in the first meeting during the Group Stage. The Old Lady also defeated Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages last season, so they seem to have a clear edge here. Can Atletico turn things around with what would be a huge upset on Italian soil?
FC Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund (Wednesday, 20:00 GMT)
FC Barcelona are yet to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League despite the fact they are undefeated, with two wins and two draws in four matches. The Spanish giants, however, will have a golden chance to secure the top spot in the standings when they take on an out-of-sorts Borussia Dortmund this Wednesday.
The Bundesliga giants have been struggling in recent weeks, but they are coming off a huge 3-2 win over Inter Milan and sit in second place with seven points, three above Inter. Los Blaugranas might look like the better team here, but Dortmund have enough weapons to pull the upset. Plus, this will be a star-studded clash between two of the most talented teams in Europe. Which side will come out on top here?
