Three Manchester United stars who could be on the move this week

While Manchester United might have managed to bring in Amad Diallo from Atalanta in a deal believed to be worth an initial £19million, it has been a quiet month in terms of incomings at Old Trafford.

Despite being heavily linked with potential moves for the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho, all eyes seem to be on what first-team stars could be heading for the exit before January’s transfer window slams shut.

With teams from across Europe desperately scrambling to complete any last-gasp deals before the window slams shut on February 1st, we have taken a look at three Manchester United stars who could be on the move over the next week.

Jesse Lingard

While Jesse Lingard might have managed to bag himself his only strike when drawing a close to the extended 2019/20 campaign away at Leicester over the summer, the 28-year-old has quickly become Manchester United’s forgotten man.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have been quick to praise the midfielder’s character over the past 12 months, the Reds’ homegrown talent has drastically struggled to feature at Old Trafford once again this season.

Often not even rewarded with a spot in Solskjaer’s match-day squad, Lingard has not made a Premier League appearance this season and it appears the United outcast could be on the verge of linking up with one of his former bosses this week.

Desperate to find a similar level that saw him shine with Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the 2018 World Cup finals, news broke on Monday afternoon that West Ham look in pole position to snap up his signature.

While Lingard might have seen United trigger a one-year extension on his contract, Hammers boss David Moyes spent time with Lingard during his brief stay at Old Trafford and the Scot is keen on a reunion.

Flying high and with a shock European finish at the top of their agenda, Sky Sports reported earlier in the week that West Ham are inching closer to completing a loan switch before the window slams shut.

Marcos Rojo

With it no secret that Manchester United are keen on slashing their wage bill over the next 12 months, many fans around Old Trafford know that Marcos Rojo’s Premier League tenure is quickly drawing to a close.

Announcing earlier in the month and taking to their official website to make it public that their versatile defender could be heading for the exit before the window closes, Rojo is clearly no part of Solskjaer’s first-team picture.

Sat on a staggering deal in the region of £100,000-per-week, the 30-year-old has not played a single minute of Premier League football for United this season and has entered the final six months of his contract.

In fact, only featuring just once for Manchester United’s U23’s in a matchup against Everton’s youngsters back in October, it was reported by ESPN last week that Rojo is also keen on ending his six-year stay at Old Trafford before the February 1st deadline.

Spending the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes, it appears that Rojo is inching closer to a return back to Argentina.

With The Daily Mail reporting last week that South American giants Boca Juniors are keen on snapping up Rojo’s signature, they go as far as to announce that the defender has already agreed on personal terms and a deal could be imminent.

Brandon Williams

While Brandon Williams might have impressed many around Old Trafford as he made 17 Premier League appearances for the former champions last season, the young defender has found first-team chances extremely hard to come by this time around.

Although the 20-year-old was rumoured to have caught Gareth Southgate’s eye ahead of this year’s delayed European Championships, United’s homegrown starlet has cut a frustrated figure in Manchester this season.

With Luke Shaw really enjoying a career resurge and the Reds also bringing in Alex Telles from Porto in the summer, Williams has only found himself slipping down Solskjaer’s defensive pecking order.

Managing to make just six appearances across all competitions, with just one of those outings coming in the Premier League, it has been reported over the past fortnight that Williams has attracted a host of potential Premier League suiters.

With it being suggested that Manchester United would be willing to allow their young left-back to leave on loan for the remainder of the year, The Sun are reporting that both West Ham and Southampton have shown an interest in striking a late deal.
