The 2019-20 Serie A season already started, and some players are beginning to stand out among the rest. But this time, we will focus on three players that have not received the recognition they deserve based on their recent performances.

Without further ago, here we present you three Serie A midfielders that should be gaining far more attention based on how good they have played.

Stefano Sensi – Inter Milan

Inter Milan are undefeated this season and while names such as Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have impressed, the team’s MVP so far has been Stefano Sensi. The central midfielder has looked absolutely dominant in the early going this season, and there is a reasonable argument to believe he has been the league’s best player to date. That’s a huge compliment considering the kind of players that feature in the league on a weekly basis.

Sensi, who’s only 24 years old, already has three goals and two assists in six appearances (five starts) during the current Serie A season. He has been playing as a central midfielder in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 scheme. But Sensi has enough freedom to roam forward whenever he wants it. That has noticeable on the impact he has had on Inter’s attacking scheme. Can he keep it going during the entire campaign?

Sandro Tonali – Brescia

Tonali has been a very popular name on the rumour mill, as the Brescia midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club during the upcoming summer. However, the youngster does not receive the recognition he deserves aside from all the transfer rumours surrounding him.

Juventus, Manchester United and Dortmund are all keen on the 19-year-old playmaker. In fact, Tonali has already been dubbed as “the new Andrea Pirlo”. But Tonali should receive more attention for his play rather than the rumours regarding him. He has excelled as Brescia’s top playmaking threat, and hasn’t felt unsettled after playing in the Serie B last season. That’s a huge plus for such a young player.

Erick Pulgar – Fiorentina

Last but not least, we have the Chile international. Pulgar already established himself as a set-piece threat playing for Bologna last season. However, he has taken that responsibility to a further level while playing for Fiorentina this term. The 25-year-old has already scored three goals this term for La Viola, all three from the penalty spot.

Pulgar enjoyed a great run with Chile during the 2019 Copa America, and that allowed him to complete his Fiorentina switch. Operating as a box-to-box midfielder, Pulgar has settled as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A right now. Could we see him move to an even bigger team next season? If he keeps playing like this, that shouldn’t be ruled out.
