Portugal champions Benfica continue their search for a goalkeeper after selling the Brazil international Ederson Moraes to Manchester City earlier this summer.
The Eagles have been linked with a number of goalkeeping targets already, most notably with Eintracht Frankfurt shot stopper Lukas Hradecky, but Portuguese media outlet Abola has learned that Rui Vitoria also has his eyes locked on the Newcastle United out-of-favour keeper Tim Krul.
The 29-year-old Dutch goalkeeper is at odds with his manager Rafa Benitez and is not expected to be a part of the team this season after consecutive loan spells at Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, respectively.
Krul has only one year left in his deal with Newcastle United and Magpies are keen to sort out his situation swiftly this summer in effort to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
The English club are said to be asking for a €5 million transfer fee that will be enough for Maglies to let Krul move to the Estadio da Luz.
