Titleholders Greece crashed out of Euro 2008 here on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by Russia in their Group D match.

Konstantin Zyryanov scored the only goal of the half in the 33rd minute to ensure the Greeks went out.

The Greeks have no points after two matches having also lost to Sweden and face group winners Spain on Wednesday.

The Greeks become the fourth ever European champions to go out at the first hurdle and third in the last four championships – the other three being Czechoslovakia in 1980, Denmark in 1996 and Germany in 2000.
