PSV Eindhoven captain Ola Toivonen has signed a new deal with the Dutch club that will keep him there until the end of the 2013/14 season.

The Swedish international striker’s contract was due due to expire in June 2012 and both parties had been in talks for several weeks which eventually resulted in the two-year extension.

Toivonen had been linked with Premier League clubs Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion in the past few months, but has decided to stay with the Eredivisie giants.

Toivonen joined PSV from Swedish side Malmo in January 2009 and has since developed into a key player at the club.

The forward has made 86 Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch powerhouse, scoring 40 goals in the process.

Toivonen was named PSV’s new captain ahead of the 2011/12 campaign by coach Fred Rutten.
