(GSM) – There were no surprises in Saturday’s Eredivisie action as both second-placed FC Twente and third-placed Ajax won their matches.
Steve McClaren’s Twente put pressure on leaders PSV with a 1-2 win at Vitesse, but it did not come easy for the visiting side.
Vitesse first went ahead through Paul Verhaegh in the 51st minute, and it took Twente until minute 82 for Costa Rican forward Bryan Ruiz to equalize.
Just when the match appeared to be heading for a draw, defender Ronnie Stam netted the winning goal for the away team.
Ajax remained in Twente’s track with a 0-2 win at Heerenveen. The home team created a number of chances in the first half but failed to take advantage, and instead allowed Danish winger Dennis Rommedahl to put Ajax ahead three minutes after the interval.
Uruguayan Luis Suarez added a second in the dying minutes to decide the clash.
Dick Advocaat’s AZ Alkmaar climbed to sixth place thanks to a 2-0 win over Roda JC. An own goal from Pa Kah handed AZ the lead in the 70th minute, and Rasmus Elm made it 2-0 with six minutes to go.
