(GSM) – Atletico Madrid defender Juanito has admitted that the club is targeting a top-four finish next season for a swift return to the Champions League.
Atletico, who featured in last season’s Champions League, were knocked out in the group stages of the competition.
But Quique Sanchez Flores’ side would go on to win the Europa League and will now face Internazionale in the European Super Cup at the end of August.
“We are very much looking forward to that match, but anything can happen in a one-off game,” he said.
Despite winning the Europa League and reaching the final of the Copa del Rey, Atletico fared poolyr in the league last season, finishing at a lowly ninth place.
That, says Juanito, needs improving.
“Our numbers from last year aren’t as good as we would have liked and we need to improve that,” he said.
“We have to be among the top four – that’s our objective.”
