French daily newspaper L’Equipe has learned that Toronto FC have completed the signing of Congolese defender Chris Mavinga.
The 25-year-old arrives on a free transfer and he has signed a three-year deal with the MLS side.
Mavinga left Russian giants Rubin Kazan after his contract expired in June, but he needed more than six months to find a new club.
The wait eventually proved well worth it as the left-back was picked up by Toronto FC and he will now get a chance to impress in the Major League Soccer.
Chris Mavinga had come through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he needed quite a while to get his professional career to a good start.
The talented defender played his best football in French Ligue 1, making a total of 70 league outings for Rennes, Reims and Troyes, while he only earned one Congo DR cap after switching his allegiance from France.
