Toronto make Defoe offer

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermaine Defoe has been offered £90,000 per week to join former teammate Ryan Nelson’s Toronto FC, the Express understands.

The England international has made just one Premier League start so far this season, but has shone in the cup competitions scoring two goals in two League Cup ties and four in six in Europe helping him maintain his place in Roy Hodgson’s England plans.

Queens Park Rangers have also been linked with a move for 31 year old, with Harry Redknapp keen to work with him at what would be a fourth different club, having also coached the striker at West Ham United, Portsmouth and Spurs.

Defoe was one of eight Tottenham players to convert a penalty against Hull City in the fourth round of the League Cup last night, and set up a quarter final with West Ham – the club where he began his playing career.
