Speaking to the press ahead of his team’s clash with Southampton on Saturday, manager Unai Emery addressed the rumours surrounding Lucas Torreira and said the midfielder has a ‘big future’ with the club.
Torreira was linked with AC Milan over the summer but he eventually moved to deny the reports, claiming he was perfectly happy in North London. However, the rumours are simply refusing to go away, and the fact that this season he hasn’t been getting as many minutes on the pitch as he would have liked can hardly be hidden. He has made only four Premier League starts so far, and he’s made five more substitute appearances in the opening 12 rounds.
It’s once again being reported that he might be on his way back to Italy in January, but Emery says that’s not the case. The coach has had private training session with the player with the goal of improving his form, and a challenge of achieving a higher level of consistency has been put in front of the Uruguay international.
