(GSM) – Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he still remains undecided as to field Fernando Torres in the starting line-up for Sunday’s World Cup final against Netherlands.
After a series of lackluster performances and failure to a goal at the World Cup, Torres was dropped to the bench for the semi-final victory over Germany, with Barcelona forward Pedro taking his place in the Spain side.
Pedro, who did fail to tee up Torres for an almost certain goal late in the game in Durban, impressed on the wings and made a strong case for his inclusion in the starting XI that will take the field on Sunday.
This has left Del Bosque undecided whether to bench Torres, who scored Spain’s winning goal in the final of Euro 2008.
“I don’t know if he will be in the line-up,” Del Bosque said in the Daily Express. “It was a difficult choice. Torres has been helping us all along. His work is important even if it is not noticed. He is good at occupying the centre-backs.
“I didn’t talk to him before I announced the line-up (against Germany). But he is a very important part of the team. He is one of the key members of the squad and a lovely guy.”
