Fernando Torres hopes a return to scoring form is just around the corner after an impressive display in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Sunderland.
Torres looked lively and dangerous throughout against the Black Cats on Saturday, and was unlucky to see a flying volley crash back off the crossbar in the build-up to Frank Lampard’s winning goal.
Fortune may not yet be back on his side, but the Spaniard said he is taking confidence from helping the team in any way he can, and believes the goals will soon come if he maintains his current level of performance.
“As a striker I’m always trying to score and I always want to score,” Torres said. “I’m hoping now I can find my best form again.”
“It’s been a different style here for me to adapt to and I’ve been giving assists for my team-mates, which has helped us towards winning games.”
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas also revealed he has been pleased with his Torres’ recent performances, and has no doubt his star man’s scoring touch will return soon.
“He’s willing to change his own fortune, and the goals will come,” Villas-Boas said.
“He’s improving in form, confidence, he’s looking better and creating danger. A goal may make a difference on a personal, inspiration level.”
