Sometimes it may seem like the stars are aligning perfectly for any given club, when in reality, danger is always lurking around the next corner. The Premier League encompasses that thought process every single weekend, which is likely the reason why we all continue to tune in. Earlier today it was Tottenham Hotspur that suffered the repercussions of the aforementioned danger, as they were beaten by London rivals West Ham United.

Spurs shocker

Spurs came into the game with a bunch of momentum, to the point where many fans were thinking that they were the favourites in the race for the top four. West Ham, on the other hand, seemed to be out of the running in the race for seventh – but that didn’t throw them off the scent in this game.

Tottenham just didn’t look like they were at the races today, which can be somewhat understandable given they’ve got a Champions League semi final right around the corner. Even with that being the case, though, their fans will be well aware of the fact that they can’t put in another performance like this again this season. If they do, they’ll put themselves in real jeopardy.

Hammers masterclass

West Ham just wanted this win more, and there’s really no other way of getting around it. The Hammers came to spoil the party at the new stadium and they accomplished their goal, with Michail Antonio scoring what proved to be the winner in the second half. It was a sensational effort, too, as he continues to fly under the radar as one of the Premier League’s most underappreciated stars.

Tottenham will now be looking ahead to their encounter with Ajax next week, but in equal measure, they’ll need to make sure that they remain focused in the Premier League too. If they don’t, then they run the serious risk of not playing in the Champions League at all next season.

West Ham will return to action next weekend when they host Southampton, with their primary ambition in the remaining two games of the season being to finish in the top half. If they do so, it’ll be quite the confidence booster ahead of the summer.
