Tottenham face Benfica over two legs with a place in the Europa League quarter-final place at stake. Tim Sherwood’s men are third favourites to take home the trophy, and they will certainly fancy their chances of progressing at Benfica’s expense.
Spurs’ record in Europe this season has been superb, The Londoners have lost just once in their 10 matches- winning the other nine, and scoring two or more goals in each of the games.
As a result, Bet 365 are giving odds of 11/10 for Tottenham to reach the quarters.
With Tottenham having home advantage for the first leg, they are expected to comfortably see past Jorge Jesus’ men. But the Portuguese outfit will certainly provide somewhat of a threat. They’re currently seven points clear in first place in the Portuguese Liga, but they did come into the tournament as losers from the Champions League group stages.
The two sides last met each other in 1962 in the European Champions Cup semi-final. Tottenham were knocked out by the side then after losing 3-1 in the first leg & winning just 2-1 in the second. But manager Tim Sherwood will be desperate to ensure such a thing does not happen again.
