Tottenham 2-3 Bournemouth: Ouattara stuns Spurs with dramatic last-gasp winner

Dango Ouattara’s dramatic late strike snatched a 3-2 win for Bournemouth over Tottenham in a Premier League thriller on Saturday.

Arnaut Danjuma looked to have salvaged a point for Spurs with an 89th-minute equaliser after goals from Matias Vina and Dominic Solanke put the Cherries in front following Son Heung-min’s opener.

But Ouattara had the final say with a superbly composed finish in the fifth minute of stoppage time to hand Gary O’Neil’s side three precious points in their battle to stay in the top flight.

Defeat is the latest setback for Spurs in their quest to qualify for the Champions League, with key clashes against rivals Newcastle United and Manchester United to come.

Under sunny north London skies, Spurs took the lead when Son diverted Ivan Perisic’s cut-back past Neto in the 14th minute.

Tottenham suffered a blow when Clement Lenglet was forced off before the break due to an apparent ankle problem as Bournemouth grew into the game.

The resilient Cherries were level seven minutes before the break, with Vina picking off Pedro Porro and dinking over Hugo Lloris into the back of the net after Solanke picked him out.

The visitors rocked Spurs by taking the lead six minutes after the restart, Solanke this time applying the finish when he beat Lloris after a mistake from Davinson Sanchez.

Tottenham responded and substitute Danjuma volleyed home from the edge of the box to set up a gripping finale.

It was Bournemouth who won it in stunning fashion, Ouattara keeping his cool to curve a composed finish past Lloris after taking a ball from the influential Solanke.

What does it mean? Spurs slip up again

With games against their two main rivals for Champions League qualification just around the corner, Tottenham could ill afford to drop points.

Now, they will have to face Eddie Howe’s Magpies and Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils knowing a defeat in either likely spells the end of their top-four hopes.

Bournemouth are up to 14th, six points above the drop zone.

Frustration for Kane

Harry Kane did not want for opportunities, having six of Tottenham’s 24 attempts on goal.

The England captain hit the target twice, but could not beat Neto in a rare off day.

Solanke supreme

With a goal and two assists, it was conversely an excellent game for Bournemouth’s number nine Solanke.

That is the third time he has notched a goal and an assist in the same Premier League game this season, a figure matched only by Manchester City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.

Tottenham travel to face Newcastle a week on Sunday, while Bournemouth welcome West Ham on the same day.
