Lassana Diarra has already been at three different clubs in the past year. He moved from Chelsea to Arsenal and from Arsenal to Portsmouth. But, he has not managed to hold down a regular job until he joined Harry Redknapp’s team; similarly, he has not managed to impress anywhere else either.
Now, alerted by the fine performances of the French midfielder in the second half of the season, Juande Ramos is chasing Diarra with a £10 million cheque in his hand. The Tottenham boss had thought that such a bid would be enough to force Portsmouth to sell due to a clause in the player’s contract, reports the Lancashire Evening Post.
However, it turns out that Portsmouth are ready to oppose the move. Peter Storrie, a Portsmouth official, declared:
“Lassana is one of our most important players and only arrived at the club in January.
“He is not for sale, and that’s the end of it.”
It would be hard to imagine how on earth Portsmouth can reject a bid which matches a release clause. But, if they can do it, it might be a blow to Tottenham who are looking to reinforce their midfield.
