As ever, Premier League giants Tottenham seem to be aiming at players in the tier below those of their rivals’ targets, with the hopes of finding a diamond in the rough to develop. With the brilliant Mauricio Pochettino at the helm that is perhaps a sensible idea, but won’t bring them the instant success that the footballing world demands.
Nevertheless Spurs are reportedly keen on PSV winger Steven Bergwijn, according to ESPN, but will face a battle with Everton in order to acquire his services. The Toffees have already added Theo Walcott, to great effect, in a bid to inject some pace into their attack, and Bergwijn certainly offers that.
The 20-year old has registered five goals and four assists in 22 Eredivisie appearances this season, and looks to have bags of potential to develop into a star winger. As a long-term project the Dutchman looks to be as good a bet as any.
