Tottenham claim first league victory, as Manchester giants win again

Tottenham claimed their first Premier League victory of the season with a 2-0 victory at in-form Wolves.

Tottenham took the lead in the 67th minute. Debutants Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor combined well for Togolese striker to slot home from close range.

Tottenham confirmed all three points in the 80th minute, as striker Jermain Defoe fired a low shot past Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey.

Elsewhere in the Premier League Manchester City cruised to another victory defeating Wigan 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

The star of the show was Argentinian superstar Sergio Aguero scoring a superb hat-trick. City took the lead in the 13th minute as Aguero fired low past Ali Al Habsi in the Bolton goal.

City had the chance to double their lead in the 19th minute from the penalty spot. However Al Habsi saved Carlos Tevez’s poor spot kick. His compatriot Aguero did put City two goals up in the 63rd minute though. Aguero latched onto Samir Nasri’s through ball and ran through the centre of the Wigan defence before keeping his cool to finish past Al Habsi.

The Argentinian completed his hat trick in the 68th minute, keeping his cool to find the net after brilliant play from midfielder David Silva.

Arsenal claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Swansea at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal will be relieved to have collected all three points but had a major helping hand from Swansea keeper Michael Vorm in collecting the points.

The Dutch keeper threw the ball out straight at full-back Angel Rangel’s heel in the 40th minute, only to see the ball bounce to the grateful Andrey Arshavin, who fired home into an empty. Swansea’s best chance fell to Scott Sinclair but the winger couldn’t convert it.

Elsewhere Stoke secured a slightly fortunate 1-0 victory over in-form Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium.

The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot, as Jamie Carragher brought down Jonathan Walters in the penalty area. The Liverpool-born striker picked himself up and scored from the spot. The result was harsh on the visitors as Liverpool had the better of the game.

Chelsea claimed a 2-1 victory away at Sunderland. Chelsea captain John Terry rifled the away side into the lead on 18 minutes. England under-21 international Daniel Sturridge doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 51st minute with a clever back-heeled finish.

Chelsea looked comfortable until injury-time when South Korean Jo Dong-Won slotted past Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal. It was too little too late for the Black Cats though, as Chelsea headed home with the three points.

Aston Villa came back from a goal down twice at Everton to earn a 2-2 draw. In truth Everton dominated and took the lead in the 19th minute. After good play from Tim Cahill, midfielder Leon Osman fired home past Shay Given.

Villa equalised in the 63rd minute as Bulgaria midfielder Stiliyan Petrov fired a superb 30 yard effort past Tim Howard in the Everton goal. The parity didn’t last long though as Everton regained the lead in the 69th minute.

Villa midfielder Fabien Delph was all over Everton’s Leon Osman in the penalty area and the referee had no choice but to point to the penalty spot. Full-back Leighton Baines made no mistake from the spot. Just as it seemed that Everton would collect a deserved victory, Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor headed home from a Marc Albrighton cross with seven minutes remaining.

Manchester United again upstaged neighbours by claiming a 5-0 victory at Bolton. The Red Devils took the lead in the 5th minute as striker Javier Hernandez scored from close range from a good Nani cross.

England striker Wayne Rooney doubled the champions lead with a poked effort in the 20th minute and four minutes later made it three with a close range effort. Hernandez scored his second from close range in the 58th minute after a fortunate deflection put the ball into his path.

Rooney was on hand to wrap up the victory in the 68th minute with a superb curling effort. It was Rooney’s second hat-trick in as many games. The victory puts the champions back on top of the Premier League table.
