Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola has learned that Tottenham Hotspur have been showing interest in Benfica star Ezequiel Garay.
The Premier League clubs had scouts at weekend’s game between Benfica and Rio Ave, as they wanted to make a check on their target.
Spurs could stay without Jan Vertonghen in the summer and Ezequiel Garay is one of the potential replacements they are looking at.
Benfica seem ready to cash in on their prized asset in the summer, but interested sides have been told they will have to meet his €20 million release clause.
Ezequiel Garay has kick-started his career at Estadio da Luz following a somewhat disappointing spell at Real Madrid and is currently regarded as one of world’s best centre-backs.
Bar any surprises, the 27-year-old will be representing Argentina at the 2014 World Cup, having started nine matches for los Albicelestes in the qualifying campaign under Alejandro Sabella.
