La Liga side Malaga have revealed that Tottenham attempted to sign star midfielder Isco in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant start to his career at Malaga since joining the club from Valencia last summer and has seen his name linked with a number of Europe’s top sides.
The Spain international was widely tipped to leave La Rosaleda in the summer amidst club’s financial worries, but los Boquerones somehow managed to hold on to him.
Malaga sporting director Mario Husilos has now revealed that Tottenham tried to sign the player in the summer transfer window.
“There have been no calls from Russia for him,” Husilos explained to Radio Marca.
“Tottenham tried to sign him before the market closed. He remains ours and with his clause, no-one has activated that.”
Isco, who has been in impressive form at the start of the new season, has a €21 million release clause inserted in his deal and the club chiefs are doing everything they can to increase the amount of the buy-out clause.
Malaga are ready to offer the player a new and improved contract in order to ward off a long line of interested clubs.
