Tottenham have to keep hold of star players

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has revealed that none of the clubs top players will be leaving in the January transfer window.

He told the media: “ We have a great squad with exceptional talent and none of the main players will be leaving in January.”

Interest

The likes of midfielders Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Modric was of course attracting interest from Chelsea in the summer and he is continuously being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

However Modric may feel like he is in a better position at Spurs than if he moved to Chelsea. Spurs are looking just as strong as their London rivals and are currently ahead of Andre Villas-Boas’ team in the Premier League table.

Bale has been linked with a move to European Champions Barcelona. The Welsh winger recently revealed his desire to play abroad at some point and there is no better club in Europe to be at than Barcelona.

Important

These are the sort of players that have turned Tottenham into a big force in English football in recent years. Tottenham have made these players into what they are today but these players have help Tottenham become realistic challengers for a top four place in the Premier League.

If Tottenham are really going to become successful they cannot afford to lose their key players and Bale and Modric are just two of their key players. I don’t think many people could argue with that.

Future

Tottenham look to have a bright future ahead of them. They have a strong, young and hungry squad which could challenge the higher spending teams in the Premier League, if not next season in the near future.

Shrewd

Both chairman Daniel Levy and manager Harry Redknapp are very shrewd. The pair has created something special at Tottenham. Redknapp has always been a wheeler dealer in the transfer market (a reputation he hates) and has picked up some real bargains.

The pair may have their differences but both of them know a good deal when they see one. The club is really well run and they haven’t spent the same amount of money as the likes of Chelsea or Manchester United.

Luka Modric arrived for a fee in the region of £16million and if reports are to be believed Chelsea were willing to pay £40million for the Croatian in the summer. Spurs paid an initial fee of just £5milion for Gareth Bale and he is also being linked with a £40million move to Barcelona.

It just shows that Tottenham can take a player and develop them into a world-class talent. Like most clubs in the Premier League they have to be able to develop players.

Boss

I think the future of Bale, Modric and all the other Tottenham players depends on the future of boss Harry Redknapp. If as expected he leaves to become the England manager next summer, then the likes of Bale and Modric may start a mass exodus.

Redknapp is a popular figure at White Hart Lane and he leaving Spurs would be terrible for the club. He brings the best out of his players. The former-Portsmouth boss has brought the best out of Bale and Modric and I’m sure they now appreciate what he has done for their careers.

Can Tottenham keep hold of Bale and Modric?
