Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admitted on Sunday that he is hopeful of completing a deal to sign England striker Peter Crouch from Portsmouth.
Redknapp had previously claimed that Portsmouth’s 15-million-pound asking price was too high but, speaking before Sunday’s Wembley Cup clash against Celtic, he revealed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is in talks with the Fratton Park club over a deal for the former Liverpool star.
“We’re interested in Peter. Daniel (Levy) is talking to (Portsmouth chief executive) Peter Storrie and the pair are very good negotiators. I don’t know where it is going at the moment,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“Portsmouth have a price they want but myself and Daniel have spoken and we have a price we think is fair.
“Hopefully a compromise will happen and we’ll get something done. There will be no medicals today (Sunday), they are still talking.
“He won’t be going to China for our tour on Tuesday, it’s still not a done deal.”
Redknapp also confirmed that Spurs are in negotiations to sign Real Madrid striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar and Inter Milan’s former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.
“They are two players we’ve been interested in,” Redknapp added. “We’ve spoken to Real Madrid about Huntelaar. I spoke with Patrick as well, or his agent, about playing for Tottenham. We?ll have to wait and see.”
Earlier Sunday, Portsmouth manager Paul Hart said the club had accepted a bid from Tottenham for Crouch.
“Obviously I’m disappointed to see Peter leave, but given the severe financial restraints in place here we had no choice but to accept an offer from Tottenham,” Hart told the Daily Mirror.
