Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Fulham: Three Things We Learned

Fulham secured an admirable point in their fight against relegation in a rearranged Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

Harry Kane was predictably the man to open the scoring by netting with a diving header in the 25th minute. Heung-Min Son was extremely unfortunate not to double the advantage in the second-half as he steered his low effort onto the base of the post, with Ivan Cavaleiro then breaking Spurs hearts with a fantastic headed equaliser.

Here are three things we learned from the capital:

Kane on for most productive PL season?

Whilst he had a quiet evening in all, Tottenham skipper Harry Kane still managed to have a productive match. His excellent diving header from Sergio Reguilon’s cross took his Premier League season tally to 11 goals and 11 assists.

It all means that the forward is set to end the campaign as his most productive top-flight of his career if he continues his current rate of output. Kane has now averaged 1.29 goal contributions per game throughout the season, marginally beating the 1.2 he earned throughout the prolific 2016/17 campaign in which he scored 29 goals and notched seven assists.

Fulham good value for a point

Most viewers would really not have guessed that Fulham were in a battle to remain in the Premier League having watched the Whites’ performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Scott Parker’s men more than matched their London rivals and were great value for a hard-earned point on the night.

Fulham were extremely tenacious and even after falling behind to their illustrious hosts, never stopped working.

In fact, the sheer statistics indicate that the clash was extremely even. The Whites actually had the same amount of shots than the hosts with 15, only just trailing them for completed passes and possession. If Fulham can replicate those performances throughout the remainder of the campaign, then they should certainly be able to avoid relegation. Parker’s troops can be backed at odds of 1/1 with Betfair to be relegated come the end of the season.

Spurs drop more points from in front

Having produced another draw, it now means that Spurs have won just two out of their last eight matches in the Premier League. Whilst that is an alarming statistic in itself, it is the manner in which these stalemates have been produced that is the most concerning.

Having seized the lead through Kane, it did not appear that Jose Mourinho’s men went all out to extend that advantage, instead inviting Fulham onto them, with an equaliser duly arriving.

During that poor run, Spurs took the lead on five different occasions but only ending up winning two of those matches. Whilst they are yet to lose a game having previously been in front, that inability to kill off opponents, or lack of ambition, could really cost the Londoners should they hope to secure a UEFA Champions League place at the end of the campaign.
