Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said he had made a bid to sign Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones but added he still did not know whether the north-east club wanted to do a deal.

Wigan’s Wilson Palacios was on Friday signed by Redknapp who has made it clear he wants to bolster his struggling squad.

Included with the Jones deal is the possibility Darren Bent might move in the other direction.

“We have made an inquiry for Jones,” confirmed Redknapp after seeing his side lose 2-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“I have no idea how far the chairman has got with it or even whether Sunderland want to do a deal.”
