Tottenham now realistic Premier League title challengers

Tottenham beat Everton 2-0 at White Hart Lane last night to go within three points of leaders Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Spurs are now looking like a real threat to Manchester City and Manchester United. I have to admit I never really saw them as realistic challengers for the title until recently.

Style

Spurs play a style of football that you can’t help but admire. Their style of play is a good example to any team wanting to play the beautiful game in the right manner.

Their attacking style is fantastic to watch and boss Harry Redknapp is reaping the rewards for playing such expansive football.

Consistency

Tottenham have found a tremendous consistency in the last few months after losing their first two Premier League games of the season, ironically to Manchester City and Manchester United. The one question mark surrounding Spurs is can they keep up this consistent form?

They certainly have the players to keep the good run of form going with a team full of quality international players and decent backup players.

Experience

One factor that may go against Tottenham in the race for the Premier League title is that they lack experience of challenging for the big trophies. However competitors Manchester City don’t have that experience either. Players have to pick up that experience somewhere and maybe it will be this season.

Promising

Tottenham have a superb group of players who could challenge for the Premier League title for years to come, if they are kept together. The problem for Spurs could be keeping the squad together. A number of their players are attracting interest from other big clubs in European football.

Welsh wing wizard Gareth Bale is believed to be on the radar of European Champions Barcelona and midfield playmaker Luka Modric is attracting interest from elsewhere.

Boss

One problem the club may encounter in keeping their squad together could be the fact that boss Harry Redknapp could depart at the end of the season. The veteran boss is favourite to replace Fabio Capello as England boss in the summer.

Redknapp leaving could result in a mass exodus which could break up the promising team he has built. I just wonder if Redknapp would turn down the England job should Tottenham claim the Premier League title.

If he was to move on to manage England, then a Premier League title would be the ultimate leaving gift to the Tottenham supporters. However I’m sure he would want the challenge of continuing the good work he has started and attempt to push the club on even further.

Tottenham enjoyed their season in the Champions League a couple of years ago and maybe the former-Portsmouth boss would be willing to stick around for another crack at Europe’s elite competition.

Money

It’s believed that Tottenham have money to spend in the January transfer window and Redknapp has targeted a centre-back and a striker. A top quality striker and defender could just be the extra lift the club needs to take the Premier League title.

Newcastle striker Demba Ba is one of the latest names being linked with Spurs and I think the Senegalese striker would be a good addition to Redknapp’s squad. The other name heavily linked with Spurs is Blackburn defender Christopher Samba.

If Tottenham can sign two players of that ilk then Spurs would have an even better chance of competing for the Premier League title at the end of the season.

Surprise

Tottenham have definitely been the surprise package of the season in the Premier League and it’s refreshing to see a new team challenge for the Premier League title.

Whether they can sustain the challenge for the league title remains to be seen but they have certainly putting themselves in a great position to challenge the two Manchester clubs and long may it continue.

Can Tottenham win the Premier League title?
