Tottenham Hotspur do not want to get rid of Toby Alderweireld just like that. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is ready to increase the player’s asking price up to £40m if the Belgian’s release clause is allowed to expire this Friday. According to the Telegraph, the centre-back’s release clause right now is around £25m, but after Friday, it will expire and Spurs will be allowed to put a new asking price.
Alderweireld has been a target of Manchester United for quite some time, but right now they are mostly looking to sign Harry Maguire. However, the Leicester defender could prove to be too expensive option and as a backup solution, the Devils are looking at the possibility of signing him instead.
Should a move for Maguire fall through, Man United will be urged to move for Alderweireld. That is why they will want to wrap up the Maguire deal as soon as possible.
