According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in going after Marseille defender Hiroki Sakai. With that being said, they are apparently concerned over the possibility of going after a player that is 29 years of age. The Japanese international is said to fit the bill of what Mauricio Pochettino wants to see, but the club are more interested in going after younger players – that are around the age of, or under, 23. Pochettino wants to improve the full back positions, with the club being more than willing to hear bids for Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier. Neither have had phenomenal seasons with Spurs, and as such, the club are keen to look into other possibilities.
If Tottenham miss out on any of their other prime targets then there is a good chance that Sakai could become an even more serious target – if he’s still around by the time the window comes close to shutting.
