According to the Daily Mail Tottenham may be in pole-position to sign Barcelona’s Giovani dos Santos but will face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
Dos Santos has found it tough during this season’s La Liga campaign, and claims suggest that the Mexican has failed to win over the faithful at the Nou Camp despite some promising performances this season.
The Mexican Dos Santos, 19, progressed through the Barcelona youth system into the first-team squad, can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, and managed to net a hat-trick in the last game of the season for Barcelona against Real Murcia in a 5-3 win. The star also managed to score 3 times for Mexico’s under-20 team in the 2007 FIFA under-20 World Cup.
The teenager would bring an attacking flair that Ramos has been looking to add at White Hart Lane.
The Daily Mail claims his performances have caught the eye of Tottenham boss Juande Ramos, who believes Dos Santos will prove to be an excellent prospect in England, as well as providing quality reinforcement for Tottenham’s strike force next season.
However Tottenham may face strong competition from Chelsea if the club appoint Frank Rijkaard within the next week. Rijkaard reportedly told the teenager that he would take the star to his next club, and would have no hesitation in bringing Dos Santos to Stamford Bridge with him. Sven Goran-Eriksson is also said to have expressed interest in the teenage star, however the current chaos at Eastlands may deter the Mexican from joining Manchester City.
