According to reports in England, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Nick Pope. The 26 year old goalkeeper is recovering from a dislocated shoulder, and upon returning, he’d need to compete for the number one spot at Burnley with Joe Hart and Tom Heaton. Spurs, on the other hand, appear to be in the market for a long term replacement for 31 year old keeper Hugo Lloris.
The French World Cup winning Lloris has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the course of the last few months, although it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll be surrendering his place in the starting XI anytime soon.
The purchase of Pope would provide Spurs with options in other competitions, and would also give Pope more of a direction than battling it out with two other extremely talented goalkeepers. It may not happen just yet courtesy of his injury, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
