Tottenham watch Jan Vertonghen
Tottenham are keeping tabs on Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, Daily Mail has revealed.
The Premier League side had their scouts watch the Belgian defender in the Europa League clash with Manchester United.
The 24-year-old produced a very good performance against the Red Devils, but he could do nothing to prevent the 2-0 defeat at Amsterdam ArenA.
Spurs emissaries were happy with what they’ve seen on the night and they will continue to follow the highly rated defender with a view of making a summer bid for his services.
Vertonghen was heavily linked with a January exit, but he eventually decided to stay at Ajax until the end of the season.
The player recently hinted that he planned to leave the club in the summer, although Tottenham could face a stiff competition for the player’s services.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the player who started 18 Eredivisie games this season, scoring three goals in the process.
Handanovic hints at summer exit
Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic admits that he dreams of playing for a big European club.
The experienced shot-stopper is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in Serie A and he is constantly linked with a move away from Friuli.
After spending last seven years playing for Udinese, the Slovenian international feels this is the right time for a new challenge.
“Every footballer dreams of playing for a great side,” Handanovic told Italian television station Mediaset Premium.
“However, it is up to me to convince people with my performances.
“If an important offer does arrive then that will be good, otherwise I’ll continue with what I’m doing without any problems. For now I’m just keeping a tight grip of Udinese.”
The 27-year-old has been an ever present for Udinese this season, starting all 23 Serie A games for the Zebrette.
Destro welcomes Juventus link
Siena striker Mattia Destro admits he is flattered by the reported interest from Italian giants Juventus.
The player, who is currently on loan at Siena from Genoa, has earned rave reviews for his performances this season and he is one of the names on Juventus’ shortlist.
Destro reveals he is delighted to be linked with the Bianconeri, his boyhood club.
“It’s pleasing to be liked by Juventus,” the Italian Under-21 international said to Il Corriere dello Sport.
“As a kid I was a big fan of theirs, but for now I am just concentrating on doing well for Siena.”
The 20-year-old joined Siena on loan from Genoa, but the Robur have already agreed to buy half of the player’s contract in the summer.
That basically means that Juventus will have to speak to both Genoa and Siena should they decide to follow up their interest in the youngster.
