Today’s action in the Premier League produced a remarkable amount of goals.
In the early kick-off Chelsea hammered Bolton 5-1 at the Reebok Stadium.
The Blues took the lead after just two minutes striker Daniel Sturridge heading home from six yards from a Juan Mata corner.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard doubled the Blues lead with a side-footed finish after a fantastic team move involving Ramires, Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge.
Sturridge doubled his tally by firing the ball towards goal only for Bolton keeper Adam Bogdan to help it into his own net. Poor keeping by the stand-in.
And two minutes later it got worse for Bogdan, as the Bolton keeper palmed out a David Luiz shot straight to Lampard who helped himself to his second of the game. Bolton got a goal back just after half-time defender Dedryck Boyata heading home Martin Petrov’s cross.
Lampard completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute playing a one-two with striker Didier Drogba before side-footing past Bogdan. That goal completed the scoring and Frank Lampard’s performance will certainly have answer a few of his critics questions.
Fulham also claimed a big win hammering QPR 6-0 at Craven Cottage. Striker Andy Johnson opened the scoring in the third minute firing home from close range after Moussa Dembele’s effort was parried by Paddy Kenny.
Fulham doubled their lead in the 20th minute through a Danny Murphy penalty after Andy Johnson was brought down by Paddy Kenny in the penalty area. Johnson scored his second in the 38th minute finishing past Kenny from a Bobby Zamora cross.
The striker scored his hat-trick in the 60th minute scoring after midfielder Danny Murphy found him with a quick free-kick. And Fulham made it in the 65th minute, Clint Dempsey finished off a superb move involving Zamora and Johnson.
Bobby Zamora completed the scoring in the 75th minute, firing home from Clint Dempsey’s pass. This performance was an emphatic answer to Martin Jol’s critics. QPR will want to forget this display as soon as possible.
Elsewhere Swansea picked up their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Stoke at the Liberty Stadium.
The Swans took the lead in the eight minute from the penalty spot, winger Wayne Routledge was brought down by Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross in the penalty area and Scott Sinclair scored the resulting penalty.
The home side didn’t make the victory comfortable until late on in the game though. Striker Danny Graham capitalised on a loose pass by Jonathan Woodgate, ran towards goal and lifted the ball over the on coming Asmir Begovic in the Potters goal.
In the late kick-off Tottenham defeated local rivals Arsenal 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Tottenham took the lead in the 40th minute, Rafael Van Der Vaart bringing down a pass from Emmanuel Adebayor before firing past Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal.
Arsenal equalised in the 51st minute through Aaron Ramsey, Alex Song’s cross was fired home from close-range by the Welshman. Tottenham however retook the lead in the 73rd minute. Full-back Kyle Walker hitting a superb swerving, dipping effort to send the home fans wild.
The victory moved Tottenham up to sixth place in the Premier League. Meanwhile Arsenal’s season of misery continues and the Gunners find themselves in 15th in the Premier League table.
