(GSM) – Roma striker Francesco Totti has dismissed rumours that is ready to retire from football.
The 33-year-old, who has been at the capital giants his entire career, he admits that when he no longer feels like himself, then he will ‘throw in the towel’.
Internazionale, Real Madrid and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the former Italy international, but Totti is expected to see out his career with the Giallorossi.
Totti told La Repubblica: “I never regretted staying in my City and the team I always supported.
“It wasn’t easy, as there are pros and cons to this situation. I have the advantage of knowing everything down to every blade of grass of this environment.
“I also have the disadvantage of always being the centre of attention. But I am proud of my choice, which was made with the heart and the head.”
Totti signed a new five-year deal with Roma in November last year after which he will become a club director, but the player has yet to contemplate his retirement plans.
“I have never considered what I’ll do when I retire.
“I don’t dream of it at night. I still feel like a football player.
“The day I realise I’m not myself any more and can no longer do on the pitch what I can do now, then I’ll be the first to throw in the towel.
“I don’t want to end up on the bench, the kind of person who plays 10 games per season.
“As soon as I feel that I am no longer Totti, I’ll step aside from everything.
“Of course, I hope that doesn’t happen for a long time.”
