AS Roma icon Francesco Totti should not expect a warm welcome from Sinisa Mihajlovic coach of their Italian Cup opponents Bologna on Wednesday as he believes the Italian snubbed him.
Both Totti and Mihajlovic played together at Roma but the 39-year-old Serbian says that the Italian failed to turn up for his farewell game when he retired as a player last year.
“For me, Totti no longer exists,” said Mihajlovic, who left Roma in 1994.
“I stopped greeting him after he failed to turn up for my farewell match.
“I had good relations with him till a year ago.
“But he just didn't behave well when it came to me organising my farewell game, because he said he would come and he didn't.
“As the match approached I rang him but he never answered his mobile. He was not a man of his word.”
Indeed Mihajlovic, who has been in charge of Bologna the beginning of November having been assistant coach at Inter Milan, claims that it was thanks to him that Totti made his debut for Roma.
“It was pretty much me he has to thank for him being give his debut so early.
“I spoke with the then coach Vujadin Boskov before a Serie match with Brescia and I said that he should include him in the first team squad after seeing him play in the reserves.
“We were winning the game 2-0 and I said to Boskov to send him on.”
